You don’t need to be a seasoned walker to enjoy the simple pleasure of exploring on foot. Whether you’re a “once-in-a-while-er”, an “if-I’ve got-time-r”, or completely new to pulling on your boots, we’ve got the perfect starting point.

In honour of Ramble Worldwide’s 80th Anniversary, we’ve hand-picked a collection of free, small-group guided walks in key locations across the UK, providing a wonderful introduction to the spectacular landscapes waiting to be discovered, right on your doorstep.

When & Where Can I Join A Sample Walk?


Taking place throughout the month of August, those eager to uncover a newfound passion for this popular pastime can take their pick from our tailor-made taster walking itineraries. Covering a variety of regions including London, Scotland, the South East and beyond, amateurs can find a walking location near them (or further afield, we’re all about travel after all…) where 2-3 walking itineraries will be available for the picking.

Each of our Sample Walk itineraries is graded as Gentle (Grade 1), with typical daily walks covering approximately 3.5 miles and gradual 50m ascents and descents. With the ability to go at your own pace, ramblers can stop to smell the flowers, take a photo, or find a bench to admire the surrounding natural landscape

  • What is a guided sample walk?

    Simply put, a guided walk is a walking experience led by an expert leader or local guide. The leader will take care of everything from planning the itinerary, pace, and logistics - so fellow ramblers can focus on enjoying the journey. With Ramble Worldwide, our collection of guided walks include small, social groups led by knowledgeable leaders who know each destination like the back of their hand - sharing insights into the landscape, history and heritage along the way. 

    Each of our walks are clearly graded to suit a range of abilities, making them the perfect choice for those who want to discover new places with like-minded people, confidently and comfortably.

  • What kit do I need for a sample walk?

    You don’t need lots of specialist equipment to embark on our guided walks, but being well-prepared will help you get the most from your experience. Essentials typically include: 

    • Comfortable, well-fitting walking boots or shoes 
    • Weather-appropriate clothing (layers and a waterproof jacket)
    • A small daypack 
    • Water and snacks 
    • Sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses) 
    • Personal items (e.g. medication, blister plasters)

    On a guided walk, navigation equipment like maps isn’t essential, as your leader takes care of the route - so you can simply enjoy soaking up your surroundings.

  • What is included in my sample walk?

    For each of our sample walks, you’ll be provided with a designated meeting point, which serves as both the start and finish of your circular guided route. Along the way, you will be accompanied by one of our dedicated expert leaders, ensuring an enjoyable and informative experience from beginning to end. To round things off, a well-earned complimentary drink awaits at the finish!

  • Can I join a sample walk as a solo traveller?

    Yes, absolutely. Our small group walking holidays are designed to be sociable and relaxed, creating an inviting and enjoyable atmosphere for like-minded solo travellers to experience, together.
